Was this at Enstone? Gerry Breen? My dad is Ron Lewis and he set up Pleasurecraft Aviation in 1981 flying the eagle,mirage and the scout. Also the Ptyredactyl and Rotec Rally 2B
Sorry I can’t tell you whether it’s Gerry, although from some of the old photos of the man himself it does strike a resemblance? Maybe we’ll get lucky and someone may let us know, who, where and when this was. Its a great piece of how it used to be. I was only commenting at the recent SPLASH show in November how technology and construction techniques have come on remarkably over the last few years alone, particularly when you look at the new machines from the P&M, Airborne and Air Creation stables and thats just flexwing. When you start looking at the new 3 axis stuff its amazing, we used to truly fly kites with mower engines on the back.
I don’t know if you noticed but it sounds as though a guy in the background is having more trouble trying to start his car than the poor bloke pulling on the starting cord of the the flexwing
Regards flying this anywhere – That all depends on what you really mean by anywhere. You are very unlikely to see this particular machine flying anywhere as it dates back, to probably late 1970’s/early 80’s.
Depending which part of the world you are in will depend upon what restrictions are in force in your own country relevant to flying microlights/ultralights.
In essence and speaking generally for the UK, most of Europe and the US you can fly these machines anywhere in unrestricted airspace. If you check out the link to the BMAA (British Microlight Association) to the top right of this site, you will find plenty of information regarding flying here in the UK.
Let me know where you are in the world if not the UK and I’ll try to point you in the right direction.
