The EZ Rizer early ultralight aircraft
ByBob built this EZ Rizer in 1980 and made the first flight on Jan 1, 1981 witnessed by John Story and Bob Jones in Krum, Texas. It is more fun per flying hour than anything I know of at 1 gallon/hour.

Its so slow it actually doesnt need any. Its just got the rudders on each side. Pitch is controlled by shifting your weight forward and backward.

You look around you can get one for $1500. With a 2-stroke. If yer handy you can convert it to an engine like this.

In the video at 1:59 he said that the plane has a modified briggs & stratton 16 hp engine. He said at the end that level flight can be maintained with as little as 5 hp.

Nice video. Mike Loehle and his modified Easy Rizers back in the early 80’s got me into the ultralight craze.

I had one of those babys, but was damaged in a wind storm, pulled all the stakes right out of the ground and put her in the woods next to my mom & Dads house, I still have the pics of it , almost had her ready to fly with a wankel out of a old artic cat snowmobile, still have the motor & prop

I’m jealous!

I believe that is a highly modified Briggs 16 or 20 hp opposed engine. I think the plane comes usually with 12 hp motors if I remember correctly.

Hey
i was looking to make a homemade hultralight

What *is* that engine? Looks kewl. Flat-head opposed twin 4-stroke? Maybe some comments are missing, guy said, “5 hp”, is that so? looks like more.
January 29th, 2010 at 7:13 pm
5 horsepower?? So basically you can just rebuild a lawnmower engine and fly??? Only problem would be taking off but that can be done with a tow.

I have one of these and would like to know how to rebuild it. How do I get in contact with you? PS I stalled and crashed on my first flight and damageged the landing gear, then found out that the propellor shaft bearings were burning and inapropriate!

That was awesome. I truly love the true ultralights and flying for fun. Keep the videos coming!
