That’s where you have to be smart about your next move. Bring sport sandals so your feet don’t have to “fester” in your nasty boots. You don’t need heavy duty boots with an ultralight pack anyway. And if you burn your hand, why the hell are you still chopping/sawing wood? Just grab the whole thing and put it in the fire. There are backpackers out there who are actually missing limbs. You too can survive with only one hand if you exercise your brain a little.

for a 3 day trip including 3ltrs of water my gear comes to about 9kg, and that is taking all the gear i could need for scottish weather

first aid is to important to leave. better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. See “Nutnfancy’s Level 1 First aid”

The AT is never more than 2-3 days from “civilization” (except in the 100-mile wilderness).

Most thru hikers carry only ibuprofen, benadryll, immodium, duct tape, neosporin, gauze, and/or bandaids.

I went hiking not to long ago and I saw this guy on the trail. He was wearing a pack that easily weighed atleast 55 to 65 pounds. He threw his trash all over the trail and had this really ugly woman with him. The woman had arm pit hair that exploded out of her tank top. I would not trust this guy for anything. He talked really loud on the trail and smelled horrible.

your very wrong man, ultra light backpacking is measured in grams and it very seldom excedes 20 lbs.

Just because a person is inexperienced does not mean they lack judgment. I am inexperienced and I am going to use my own judgment, im bringing the first aid kit.

Anyway you might be right about the point of these videos to give good tips, I have no idea I never made the video.

Hmmm… take a blister on your heel.
At home, you could just cover it in a plaster, and be done with it.
In the wild: you leave it be, it festers in your hot and sweaty boot. It grows, and suddenly the skin off your whole heel is gone. You can no longer travel, and are using food while not getting closer to your Exfil point.
You pick up a hot pot (by inattention). you burn your hand. Suddenly you can no longer process wood without huge amounts of pain, etc.
Injuries in the wild are worse.

iv fell out of a tree 30 feet up and hit my head and kept walking… like i said and the video says… use your own judgement… iv been on plenty of hikes, no through hikes though. i can tell you an injury to me in the wild is no diffrent from at home… that is just me though.

Actually most FA kits don’t contrain “a few bandaids and aspirin”
Every injury or pain in the wild gets multiplied tenfold. If you’ve been out at all you’d know this. Secondly, what you say about your own system shows inexperience: Cloth can leech dies into the wound, and bind during the healing process. Hydrogen peroxide is not the best choice of disinfectant.
Finally, maybe you don’t use your FAK often, but it’s something you HAVE to have. Because IF you need it, it’ll be serious.

Use your own judgement….

this is a video for novice campers/hikers!!!

How are they supposed to use their own judgement? they are inexperienced. The point of videos like these is to give them GOOD tips….

yeah he said to use your own judgement… most first aid kits only contain a few band aids and aspirin… and im pretty sure i can weather a few booboos and a little pain and a rash or two.

if something looks like it may get infected i always use just a piece of cloth and tape and i always bring a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide to clean it out.

He actually said to lose your own judgment. :)

I can’t believe he just advocated leaving the first aid kit behind….

Wow. Anyway, haven’t seen all of it, g2g, but that comment just blew my mind.

Maybe some briefing before the video, guys. Also, get closer to the subject’s mouth. Nice video fellas!

poly vinyl alcohol material can absorb water alot per area, more than cotton towels, and squeeze almost all of the liquid right out; easy to maintain, and space saving. very good for outdoor needs
