Popham Microlight Trade Fair and Fly-in - 2009
Billed as one of, if not the largest microlight trade fair/fly-in in the UK, this years event held on 2nd-3rd May was no washout like last year! It certainly looked busier than previous years and it will be interesting to see what Popham reveal over the next few days as to the number of visitors both flying and by foot. I chose not to fly on this occasion although there was a small contingent from Barton going down on the Saturday morning and coming back in the late afternoon. Sunday's weather forecast was less favourable to us microlight flyers as the wind was expected to pick up and there was also some rain due during the day. Saturday however was very pleasant and when the sun was out, as it was for most f the day it was quite warm, for May. I even got a little sun burnt on my face and neck in the process!
I got on the road for about 7:30am with my son Brandon and set off from Manchester. We arrived at Popham at about 11:45am after having a stop off for a Costa Coffee and Almond Croissant and Cherwell Valley service station on the M40. By the time we arrived at Popham the car parking in the field was already quite busy. Loaded up with camera and video gear, we headed off to the main exhibitor stands situated alongside runway 09/21.
We bumped into Chris Copple and Mary who had arrived from Barton about an hour before us having set off at about the same time. We had a quick recky of who was exhibiting then decided we needed food, sowent for a burger where we bumped into Mark, Kerrie and Richard who along with Chris had flown from Barton.
We spent the rest of the day snap happy and the gallery below is the result f our day's labour, hope you enjoy!
